This event is designed especially for the warbird pilot.  The landing fee $50.00.  All aircraft must have been used in the military and be in military paint schemes.  Aircraft of any scale, including arfs, are welcome. This means lots of open flying without interference from flying lawn mowers or 3D planes. The noon will feature fly-bys by a full scale Seafury and AT-6; the pyro show will be even more spectacular and there are openings for big bombers and fighters to participate.

Thousands of dollars in R/C merchandise has been donated with most of it going to the pilots over the 3-day event. Some items will be sold at auction during the Saturday night banquet.

Famous Dave’s BBQ will be the official field food vendor for 2009. Friday night there will be an impromptu Famous Dave’s “Big Pig” dinner on the field; tickets are $20.00. 

The banquet on Saturday night will be held at the Lory Student Union, at Colorado State University. The sit down dinner features prime rib, salmon or a vegetarian option with all the fixings, soft drink and dessert. Cost is $35 per person. A no host bar will also be available.  The banquet will be both entertaining and full of surprises. The guest speaker, a highly decorated ace from WW II Ace, will provide an entertaining, informative talk.  Banquet tickets are available on-line or by mail; a limited number of tickets will be available at the field.  Please buy your tickets early as seating is limited.

During the past several months, several people have expressed interested in doing some IMAC work. Well, we are going to offer an opportunity to our members to do just that. Mark Dennis has agreed to give some instruction on IMAC for those who are interested. I appointed David Kelley to organize and coordinate the training. He is also the clubs point of contact for this. He has picked up the ball and as it stands now, instruction is scheduled for Sunday May 2. It will run from 9am to 4pm.

Those that are interested should contact Dave Kelley at imac@miniatureaerosportsters.org or they can signup on the signup sheet that is located on the bulletin board, in the clubhouse. The deadline for signup is set for April 24. This is to allow enough time for Mark to insure there are enough people to run the training. This training will require the airfield being dedicated to the IMAC flyers for the period of 11:30am to 4:00pm on the May 2. The field will be open to everyone until 11:30am and after 4:00pm. This is a trial thing and if there is insufficient support for it, we will not do it again until there is or, it will need to be done during the week.

Drop-In From  10:00 AM To 4:00 PM

Location: Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum

Come to Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum February 27^th from 10AM to 4PM for the 6^th Annual Aeromodeling Expo. Come see radio controlled aircraft, helicopters, and even a blimp in action. Purchase your own R/C plane from one of the many vendors available. There will be demonstrations, question and answers sessions with R/C pilots, and food! Weather permitting, tours the Museum’s massive B-52 bomber will even be on the schedule. With fun for the whole family, this is an event that you will want to stay all day long for.

Well it is the new year and that means our 6th Model Expo is coming up. It will be held on Feb 27th from 10:00am to 4:00pm at the Wings Over The Rockies Museum again. The door will be open at 7:00 am for all the clubs and Hobby stores to start their set ups. Weather permitting, we hope to have the B-52 cockpit open for viewing as the drawing factor for the public. We also have been working with Buckley Air Base to have a Blackhawk helo there for display. We are still waiting to hear from them. All the paper work is in.

MAS will once again have a club display. Members are invited to bring their airplanes or helicopters. Set up time is from 8:00 am to 9:00am. They are requesting that all models stay in place until 4:00pm.

We have the latest and probably final $ amount for the Dare to Fly event. The event raised $5,862.00 for United Cerebral Palsy of Colorado! Not bad considering the state of the economy and the less than desirable weather conditions.

There’s been a lot of history with MAS so help other members learn more about their favorite flying site! Happy flying!

Here’s a picture of my Great Planes Big Stik right before its first flight with a Magnum .52 engine and Airtronics radio.  I received the plane from my good friends at the Valley View Flyers a few years back and it’s been on the “Finish Building” list way too long.  Before dusk I was able to get in about 6 take-off and landings.  It’s a fast, stable flyer and lands like a dream with 25% Flaperons set.  The Magnum engine isn’t quite running at 100%, but it’s not running bad.  I need to check the spray bar, glo-plug, head temp, etc. and also make  sure  the 11×6 prop I’m using isn’t  causing problems.  I have a vibration issue which shook apart my on-off switch housing (wasn’t on real tight to begin with) and I suspect a unbalanced prop.  I’ll check it out tonight.  What a great day flying.  Tomorrow I hope to do more.

When the vertical stabilizer was found, we noticed it had a chunk of it missing from where the prop bit into it.  The stryker had a mid-air collision with – itself.  Too funny.

This plane has been heavily used all summer and it’s a great flyer.  I’m currently using cheap  Tenergy 25C 1800mah batteries and so far they work great!.
